SBC-2012-Certificate_OsypenkoIEEE Student Branch & GOLD Congress that was held in Madrid, Spain from 25th to 29th of July 2012 is an international event organized by IEEE where young engineering students and young professionals from universities of Europe, Middle East and Africa meet together to discuss present and future engineering challenges, network and learn more about the IEEE. Previous editions of this congress were held in such cities as Paris, Cairo, Istanbul and others.
The purpose of this event is to help engineering students, PhD students and young professionals gain further insight, enabling exchange of knowledge and skills.

IEEE Ukraine Section delegated 5 IEEE Student and GOLD Members: Kateryna Osypenko (IEEE KPI Student Branch), Dmytro Glushko (IEEE NAU Student Branch), Evgen Pichkalyov (IEEE Ukraine Section GOLD AG), Anastasiia Moskaltsova (IEEE IRE-Kharkiv Student Branch), Oleksiy Roshchupkin (IEEE TNEU Student Branch).
The plenary sessions and workshops in this congress did not only put their focus on research and technological developments, but also career issues and the importance of developing the soft skills.
There were different tracks on different topics:
• Student branch leadership
• Soft Skills
• Telecommunication and networks
• AI, robotics and system control
• Technology for the developing world
• Electrical and electronics
• Energy
• Bioengineering
There was an individual track for GOLD (graduate of last decade) students.
The SBC had different activities which allow companies to interact with the attendants. Due to the variety of participant firms and attendants, it was the perfect atmosphere to exchange experiences, professional contact and get to know future projects and business opportunities.
The SBC is not only a technical congress, but also a big chance for cultural exchange. For this reason, several cultural events such as Multicultural Dinner, Daytrip to San Lorenzo and Gala Dinner were held.
When stopping for a rest, it was the perfect moment to exchange experiences and speak in a more relaxed way, making it easier to get to know each other.
This congress was an ideal opportunity to get in touch with students from different countries. Furthermore, it gave a platform to the companies to gain international reputation towards the new generation of engineers.
